SOUTH HAVEN MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The South Haven Area Emergency Service has a new member of their organization that will assist in rescuing distressed swimmers in Lake Michigan.
The drone is designed to carry a flotation device to the swimmer to help keep them afloat until help can arrive.
The drone also has an infrared camera attached that will help authorities when searching for people in the dark.
SHAES bought the drone with funds from a grant.
Last year, there were 23 incidents of distressed swimmers in the Lake, with three drownings.
