VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Drivers could still see some leftover debris along the roadways after strong storms ripped through parts of Michigan over the weekend.
Winds around 60 mph, frequent lighting, and heavy rains hit portions of southwest Michigan and northern Indiana Friday night.
Officials with Indiana Michigan Power say nearly 20,000 of their customers were without power, with some of the hardest hit areas in parts of Van Buren County.
Crews assessed the damage and as of Sunday officials reported 54 broken poles and 34 spans of downed wire.
No injuries were reported and a majority of the power outages have already been restored.
Crews worked throughout the weekend to cleanup the downed trees and power lines.
Indiana Michigan Power says due to extensive storm damage, complete restoration to fewer than 200 customers in the Paw Paw area will take place on Monday as well as fewer than 100 customers in the Almena area and less than 60 customers in the Covert area.
