QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Fire Department will be able to purchase a 2007 ladder truck after getting permission from the Quincy Village Council on Tuesday night.
Fire Chief Mike Sherman said it will replace a 1975 ladder truck that had a number of safety issues including significant hydraulic leaks in the aerial device.
To replace one of the hydraulic cylinders would have cost up to $20,000 and it was felt a vehicle of that age was not worth repairing.
Sherman said he found the new truck at a company in Pennsylvania where they did business previously.
The multi-purpose unit includes a water pump and tank that the current truck does not have.
The original asking price was $176,000 but Sherman told the Village Council he managed to get the price down to $160,000.
Sherman said a trade in of two pieces of old equipment brought the price down further to $120,000 for the truck which would be owned by the village and Quincy Township.
The money for the ladder truck would come from the millage that went into the Quincy Fire Association’s capital improvement fund.
