QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic has wiped out another Branch County summer time event for 2020.
The Quincy Village Council approved a request from Village Manager Brittany Butler on Tuesday night to call off the Quincy Main Street Festival for this year due to several COVID-19 related concerns.
Butler said they would not be able to meet state COVID-19 guidelines for festivals and events. Only 100 people are allowed in an outdoor gathering right now. Butler said there was no way they could provide hand sanitizers to every single participant and it would also be difficult to maintain social distancing with the large crowd expected.
In addition, the event is supported by local businesses who are just now reopening after being shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic for almost three months. Butler also does not want to have volunteers being forced to wear a mask for 12 hours in the middle of August.
The Main Street Festival, which has been put on by the Quincy Chamber of Commerce for two years, used to be known as Quincy Daze.
Meanwhile, the Quincy Village Office is scheduled to reopen to the public on June 29 with COVID-19 guidelines in place.
Butler said the Street Department will be installing plexiglass at the front counter while a service window will be installed at the front of the building.
