LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Republican state lawmakers have begun an effort that would exempt high school graduation ceremonies from current pandemic restrictions.
Some House members have said that it should be up to each individual district to decide what type of ceremony works best for them, and that they should be able to ignore the restrictions if they feel they can provide a safe event.
State health officials and the Michigan Education Association have come out against the idea, saying that the safety factor should be the overriding element.
The bill now heads to the full House for approval.
