COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved over $4.4 million worth of bids for construction work at the new Branch County Jail Tuesday afternoon.
The total cost was under what was expected as seven bids were approved. The largest was for masonry work and it was awarded to Bracy and Jahr of Quincy at over $1.6 million.
Cook Jackson received the carpentry bid at over $626,000. Division 7 Building Contractor got the roofing job with a bid of over $362,000.
Metal Wall Panel work was awarded to Architectural Glass and Metals at over $544,000, Battle Creek Glass won the Glass and Glazing job with a bid of just under $80,000, General Trades work was awarded to Schweitzer, Incoporated with a bid of over $833,000 while Ryan Fire Protection received the Fire Protection job with a bid of over $402,000.
Work on the new jail is scheduled to be finished in September 2021.
In other business, commissioners decided to eliminate the COVID-19 travel policy for county employees that has been in effect since late March. Commissioners felt it was no longer needed since the Governor’s Stay at Home order has been lifted.
