CONVIS TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A pilot is OK after he crash landed a small plane near a campground in Calhoun County.
It happened around 3:15 p.m. Sunday in a cornfield near the Camp Turkeyville RV Resort on 15 ½ Mile Road near Gorsline Road in Convis Township.
Calhoun County Sheriff deputies say the 26-year-old pilot from Nashville in Barry County was in a single engine experimental aircraft and experienced engine failure while he was taking off from the cornfield.
The planes altitude was too low to restart the engine, so the pilot crash landed the plane into the cornfield.
The pilot, who was the only occupant in the plane, was not injured.
Authorities say that the Federal Aviation Administration has been contacted and will be investigating the crash.
