THREE RIVERS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police in Three Rivers are reporting that a driver crashed his vehicle after his passenger shot a gun into their own leg by mistake.
MLive reports that the incident took place on Monday around 3:30 p.m. Police were called to the area of U.S. 131 near Broadway Avenue.
After the passenger discharged the gun, the driver crashed through a construction zone and eventually came to rest in a ditch.
A tourniquet was applied to the victim’s leg to help stop the bleeding before being transferred to a hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed three unsecured handguns, plus marijuana and packaging in the passenger side. Police did not specify what kind of packaging was found.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office is now reviewing this incident to decide whether charges will be filed against the passenger or not. The driver of the vehicle is not expected to receive any charges.
