UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A Union City man was injured Monday in a crash on Dunks Road near Rustic Hills Drive.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says 49-year-old Scott Cayo told deputies that he passed out and went off the road.
His vehicle then struck a power pole and sheared it off. The pole barely missed an 88-year-old resident who was mowing their lawn.
The vehicle then went across Rustic Hills Drive and into the woods before it struck a couple of trees and came to a stop.
Both air bags deployed but Cayo suffered a significant laceration when his head struck the windshield. The Sheriff’s Department said he was not wearing his seat belt.
Cayo was taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Deputies were assisted by Union City Police and Fire as well as Life Care paramedics.
Union City Power was called in to repair the power pole.
