ANGOLA, Ind. (WTVB) – A domestic dispute at the Steuben County Campgrounds that triggered a series of events on Saturday night led to a man suffering a head injury and another man being arrested for being in two crashes.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to the campground at about 9:20 p.m..
A preliminary investigation determined one of the persons involved in the dispute intentionally rammed the parked vehicle owned by the other party involved.
The driver then tried to leave the scene. A male bystander, who witnessed the events, tried to stop the vehicle from leaving by attempting to open the driver’s side door but failed. The bystander then broke out the driver’s side window, at which point the driver accelerated away from the area.
The bystander was holding onto the vehicle until they fell and landed on the pavement. The bystander suffered abrasions to the legs and a head injury from striking the pavement.
The bystander was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne for medical treatment and was later discharged from the emergency department.
The driver of the vehicle was located at the intersection of County Road 200 West and Crooked Lake Lane 101 by one of the responding deputies. The vehicle then crashed into the median near the junction of I-69 and struck a sign.
The driver was then taken into protective custody and taken to Cameron Hospital for a medical and mental health evaluation.
