BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – On the same day Governor Whitmer extended her Stay at Home order until June 12, the Calhoun County Public Health Department reported two more COVID-19 related deaths which brought the total number of deaths up to 21.
The department has reported three deaths this week. In addition, there have been 45 new cases over the last week which brought the number of positive cases since the outbreak began up to 335.
Of those who caught the virus, 72 required hospitalization. Five of those persons are currently in a Calhoun County medical facility.
Department officials said in a news release on Friday that they “continue to see community spread which means residents should assume the virus is in their immediate community.” The statement went on to say residents should continue responsible hygiene practices to avoid continuous infection.
Meanwhile, the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency reported on Friday there have been 99 positive cases of COVID-19 in Branch County since the outbreak began with 168 cases in Hillsdale County and 96 cases in St. Joseph County.
