QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In his report for Tuesday night’s Quincy Village Council meeting, Branch County Sheriff John Pollack says as his department is adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic, they are also adapting to a new routine.
With Michigan’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order in place for nearly two months, Pollack says complaints are down 28 percent while arrests are down 17 percent and traffic citations are off 16 percent. But with people being told to stay home, domestic complaints are up 37 percent.
Suspicious activity reports are also up 48 percent as more people are home to report it.
There has been more room at the Branch County Jail in recent weeks. As of Tuesday morning, there were 71 inmates which is half of its capacity.
There were 11 female inmates which is well below the female capacity of 20.
Pollack says so far there have been no COVID-19 infections of jail inmates, deputies or correction officers.
