COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Big Chill of May 2020 continues to rewrite Coldwater’s record book for low temperatures according to the website www.weatherbase.com.
The mercury dipped to 34 degrees on Monday night at the Branch County Memorial Airport which broke Coldwater’s record low for May 11 of 35 degrees that was set in 1997.
On the 12th day of May, the official temperature in Coldwater hit the freezing mark as it got down to 32 degrees at 1:15 a.m.. That tied the record low in Coldwater for May 12 which was set in 2013.
It was even colder to the north as some parts of Calhoun County saw temperatures dip into the upper 20s.
New record low temperatures for May 8 and 9 in Coldwater were set last weekend after highs were near 80 degrees on the previous Saturday.
Thanks to a blast of arctic air, the temperature at the Branch County Memorial Airport just before midnight on Friday dropped to 32 degrees which broke the previous record for May 8 of 36 degrees.
The mercury dropped to 27 degrees at about 5:00 a.m. last Saturday. That smashed the record low for May 9 which was 34 degrees set in 2010.
