COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater continues to have by far the most prisoner deaths of any Michigan Department of Corrections facility.
The M.D.O.C. reported on Monday the 20th death of an inmate who was originally housed at Lakeland.
The Lakeland death toll has doubled the amount of prisoners at the Parnall Correctional Facility in Jackson who have died after testing positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, 54 Michigan prisoners have died since the outbreak began.
Out of over 2,100 positive coronavirus tests among the Michigan prisoner population, there have been 791 positive tests for COVID-19 among Lakeland prisoners.
In addition, 34 staff members at Lakeland have tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, another death of a Hillsdale County resident who tested positive for COVID-19 was reported on Monday by the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency. That brings the total number of deaths in Hillsdale County since the outbreak began up to 22.
The C.H.A. latest COVID-19 report on Monday showed there have been 80 positive cases in Branch County since the outbreak began along with 152 cases in Hillsdale County and 65 cases in St. Joseph County.
