COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Drivers who normally take Sauk River Drive in Coldwater will have to find an alternate route for the next few months.
Sauk River Drive between South Sprague and South Willowbrook Road is now closed to through traffic as a water main replacement project got underway on Monday.
The water main work is scheduled to be completed by July 2. The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors approved a construction bid of over $581,000 from Parrish Excavating in March to replace the water main.
B.P.U. Director Jeff Budd said at the time the old 10 inch water main will be upgraded to a 16 inch main.
After the work on the water main in finished, Sauk River Drive will be widened and repaved with a dedicated center turn lane added in hopes of improving safety.
Concord Excavating and Grading’s bid of just under $412,000 was accepted by the City Council recently for the work.
The project was budgeted for the 2020-2021 fiscal year with an 80 percent Michigan Department of Transportation grant of up to $375,000 which was awarded to the City of Coldwater in January of 2020. The City’s 20 percent match comes out to over $82,000.
