COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – New record low temperatures for May 8 and 9 in Coldwater were set overnight just a week after there were highs near 80 degrees.
Thanks to a blast of arctic air, the temperature at the Branch County Memorial Airport just before midnight on Friday dropped to 32 degrees.
The previous record for May 8 of 36 degrees, which was set back in 2006, was broken earlier in the evening when the temperature dropped to 34 degrees just before 10:00 p.m.
The mercury dropped below freezing after midnight before it got to as low as 27 degrees at about 5:00 a.m. on Saturday. That smashed the record low for May 9 which was 34 degrees set in 2010.
Coldwater’s average low for May 8 and 9 is in the mid 40s.
The average high is in the mid 60s but unseasonably chilly weather is expected to last at least into the middle part of next week.
To add insult to injury, snow showers are in the forecast for Sunday night and early Monday morning.
