COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater High School senior Dylan Targgart has been named as the Male Class A winner of the Michigan High School Coaches Association Rich Tompkins Multi-Sport Athlete Award.
Targgart competed in football, basketball and track and field at Coldwater.
He won the national shot put championship at the New Balance National Outdoors Championship in June of 2019 with a Michigan record distance of 69 feet, 4-1/4 inches.
He has also won MHSAA Division Two shot put and discus titles in his sophomore and junior years.
Targgart plans to continue his track career at the University of South Carolina.
In basketball this past season, Targgart went over 1,000 points for his career and was named to the Interstate 8 All Conference Boys Basketball Team.
In football, Targgart earned the Coldwater Cardinals Iron Man Award as he recorded 67 tackles and two interceptions at linebacker in 2019. He also earned an Honorable Mention on the Michigan Associated Press Division Three and Four All-State football team and was named to the Interstate 8 All Conference team.
Each high school in the state is eligible to submit one senior female and one senior male for Rich Tompkins Multi-Sport award. The athlete must have competed in at least three sports for all four years of high school.
Each of the nominees are evaluated on the basis of their athletic achievements both as a individual and a team member, scholastics, leadership and service.
