ORLAND, IND. (WTVB) – Miller Poultry in Steuben County resumed production operations on Tuesday after nearly 800 workers were tested for COVID-19 last Friday and Saturday.
The plant was closed on Monday as test results had not come back yet from the laboratory.
As it turned out, 136 employees or 17 percent of the workforce tested positive for coronavirus. The plant is expected to operate at 70 percent capacity for the rest of the week.
The company said in a letter to employees that over 85 percent of positive cases were asymptomatic before testing.
The testing was conducted after six employees and a U.S. Department of Agriculture inspector tested positive.
Officials at Miller Poultry say the testing was done strictly as a precautionary measure to protect employees and communities.
