LANSING, MI (WTVB) – After officials in Hillsdale declared the community was no longer subject to the executive orders issued by Governor Whitmer, Attorney General Dana Nessel says the governor’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” and places of public accommodation executive orders are still enforceable.
Nessel issued the guidance on Tuesday to local governments and police agencies after some were confused about what was going on in Lansing.
There was some head scratching among local governments when the Legislature did not pass an extension of the state of emergency and disaster declarations, which are completely separate.
Whitmer bypassed the legislature and used a couple of state laws from 1945 and 1976 to extend the measures.
The Stay Home, Stay Safe is scheduled to expire next Friday, May 15.
Hillsdale officials have not been happy with Whitmer’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Hillsdale City Council passed a resolution on April 20 which called on Whitmer to “rescind the extreme measures” taken in her executive orders.
