COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Corrections reported on its web site Wednesday night the 14th death of a prisoner who had been housed at the Lakeland Correctional Facility after that prisoner tested positive for COVID-19.
The M.D.O.C. says there have been a total of 41 Michigan prisoners who have died after testing positive for the virus.
There have been 787 positive tests for coronavirus among the inmates at Lakeland since the start of the outbreak.
Over 1,400 prisoners at Lakeland have been tested including those who were part of expanded tests that were conducted last week.
There have been 622 negative tests.
The M.D.O.C. says 22 prisoners who previously tested positive were later moved into a step down unit after it was felt they were no longer contagious while three prisoners have recovered from the virus.
In addition, 32 staff members at Lakeland have tested positive for COVID-19.
