BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek Police have named the suspect in a recent double homicide case, who has since been linked to another incident that took place along an area highway.
Police are seeking charges against 56-year-old Kenneth Hoskins, a South Bend resident who was reportedly arrested for stabbing a semi-truck driver and then himself on a stretch of I-94 during Sunday afternoon.
Both the victim and suspect were taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries resulting from the attempted car-jacking incident.
Before linking the two incidents, investigators started looking into the two suspicious deaths at Battle Creek’s Silver Star Apartment Complex as a double homicide.
The victims in that case were identified as 62-year-old Fred Bissel and 41-year-old Jason Dush.
Police say signs of a struggle in the apartment were present, and both victims appeared to have been stabbed. Multiple knives were found during the investigation.
Hoskins was reportedly living with one of the victims at the time.
After reviewing video footage and interviewing witnesses, a person of interest was identified. Police say this person was an acquaintance of the victims and was already in custody on unrelated charges.
Hoskins is the only suspect in this case, and police do not believe there are additional threats to the community. A motive still has yet to be established.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Monday that Hoskins was being charged for assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and motor vehicle theft.
Charges are currently being requested for the Battle Creek homicide case by police. This is an ongoing case and will be updated as more information becomes available.
