COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Corrections reported on its web site Friday night that a second prisoner at the Lakeland Correctional Facility has died after testing positive for COVID-19.
No immediate information was available on the deceased Lakeland prisoner.
According to the D.O.C. web site, 55 on the 64 tests conducted on Lakeland prisoners came back positive making the Coldwater prison the third highest in Michigan for positive prisoner COVID-19 tests. The nine other tests were negative. Meanwhile, 17 Lakeland staff members have tested positive for the virus.
The D.O.C. also reported the COVID-19 death of a prisoner at the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility.
A total of seven Michigan prisoners have died after testing positive for COVID-19.
The prisoner who died at Huron Valley had not been tested at the facility and was not a close contact or a patient under investigation. After her death, the hospital tested her for COVID-19 and the positive test result came back on Friday.
