COLDWATER, MI. (WTVB) – A second Branch County death from COVID-19 was reported on Thursday by the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency. In addition, there was another Hillsdale County death reported which brough that county’s death toll up to seven.
The latest Branch County individual to die from the virus was an adult female who was hospitalized according to the C.H.A.. The two Branch County deaths so far are in addition to a prisoner dying earlier this week from coronavirus at the Lakeland Correctional Facility.
The C.H.A. reported that as of 3:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon, there were 24 positive cases for COVID-19 in Branch County with 20 cases in St. Joseph County and 64 cases in Hillsdale County.
Meanwhile, there were 54 prisoner cases of COVID-19 at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater while 15 staff members have tested positive
The Calhoun County Public Health Department reported 58 positive cases out of 425 tests on Thursday. There were 285 negative tests while results are pending on 82 cases.
The State of Michigan reported 1,158 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday which was the second straight day there has been a decline in cases from the previous days number. There were 117 new deaths. The total amount of cases in Michigan in just over four weeks has reached 21,504 with the virus killing 1,076 Michigan residents.
