LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Corrections expanded information on its website Monday evening on the number of prisoners and staff members who have tested positive and negative for COVID-19.
It indicated that 31 prisoners at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater have tested positive out of 44 who were tested. Six Lakeland prisoners tested negative while results on seven prisoners were still pending.
It was first reported Monday evening there were nine confirmed COVID-19 cases among Lakeland staff members. The M.D.O.C. later reported the number of positive cases had increased to 11.
System wide, a total of 238 Michigan Department of Corrections prisoners had positive tests out of 418 who were tested.
Results showed there were 123 negative tests with results on 57 tests still pending. The DOC said 86 staff members around Michigan have tested positive. The virus has killed one prisoner and two staff members.
There’s no information yet on the number of prisoners and staff who have recovered.
