COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners voted during their work session Tuesday to bring a request forward to Friday’s regular meeting which allows Juvenile Court Administrator and Referee Wendy Gensch to fill the open Youth Specialist position.
The work session was held electronically after Governor Whitmer signed an executive order last week which temporarily changed the Open Meetings Act during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Youth Specialist position became open last Friday after Alexis Cole accepted employment with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in Calhoun County.
Gensch told Commissioners that Probate Judge Kirk Kashian felt it was critical to have two staff members at all times due to safety concerns and past incidents.
A person with a Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice or the Human Services field is preferred. The Youth Specialist is a full-time position with pay starting at $15.68 per hour. The position also includes Branch County employee benefits.
