COLDWATER, MI – (WTVB) – The Coronavirus outbreak continues to cause choas for school and athletic officials.
One day after the Michigan High School Athletic Association announced that their winter sports tournaments were being suspended indefinitely due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the M.H.S.A.A. directed all member schools to suspend activities in all sports for all seasons effective this Monday, March 16 through at least Sunday, April 5 to fall in line with Governor Whitmer’s order that all schools close for the next three weeks.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Michigan jumped from two on Tuesday to 12 on Thursday.
Although Friday’s announcement stopped short of saying everything was cancelled for the spring sports season, it’s highly unlikely there will be any high school sports in Michigan for the rest of this school year especially after the N.C.A.A. pulled the plug on their spring sports and championships on Thursday.
