COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Union City man was arraigned on charges of second degree child abuse and third degree fleeing and eluding from a police officer on Thursday in Branch County District Court.
27-year-old Kyle Santiago Arrasmith was arrested Wednesday night after he alledgely tried to flee from a Union City Police Officer who tried to stop him for an equipment violation. The pursuit ended when Arrasmith’s vehicle crashed in the area of Girard and Arborgast Roads.
The child abuse charge was filed after an investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department into alledged January incidents involving his four month old daughter.
According to court documents, hospital x-rays showed the infant suffered a fractured right arm as well as healing leg fractures after she had been brought into the hospital for a bump to the arm.
Documents also indicate the defendant admitted to investigators that he squeezed the child to hard when he took her out of a bassinet.
Bond was set at $25,000 in the child abuse case and $5,000 for the fleeing charge. A probable cause hearing was scheduled for March 26, with a preliminary exam set for April 2, 2020.
