QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The showdown is set between the top two seeds in the Division Three Boys Basketball District Tournament at Quincy.
It will be the Centreville Bulldogs against the host Quincy Orioles Friday night at 6:00 p.m. for the District crown and the right to advance to next weeks regional at Bronson.
Quincy scored the first 11 points of the game as they defeated White Pigeon 63-42 while Centreville broke open a close game in the second half in their 65-42 win over Bronson.
The Orioles were never seriously threatened after Kyler Economou scored the first nine points of the contest. Quincy led 29-12 at the half and 44-23 after three quarters.
White Pigeon refused to go quietly as they cut the lead down to 11 points midway through the final quarter but the Orioles managed to gather themselves and pulled away in the final minutes.
Economou finished with a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds while Will Dunn also had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three blocked shots. Matt Hagaman added 14 points, four assists and three steals.
The Orioles outshot White Pigeon 47 to 27 percent and had a 38-19 rebounding edge. The somewhat sloppy game saw the two teams combine for 56 foul shots and 41 turnovers, 23 of them by the Orioles.
Quincy will take a 18-3 record into Friday’s District title game.
Centreville improved to 18-4 with their victory. The Bulldogs only led 21-17 after a first half that featured cold shooting by both sides. Centreville opened up some space in the third quarter when they outscored Bronson 23-9.
Aden Hathaway led Bronson with 13 points while Graham Eley ended his fine career for the Vikings with nine points. Bronson finished the season 5-16.
