QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – A Quincy Community Schools 8th grader this year has begun an effort to win grants to pay for Chromebook computers for all Quincy students.
Natalie Craig, who is the middle school Student Council President, spoke at last week’s Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary meeting and explained to club members that she started the school year in September with a list of goals to accomplish, beginning with helping to make a difference for her classmates as well as all of her younger siblings. Natalie is the oldest of four children and her father, Andrew Craig, is the technology director for the Quincy School District.
She told Rotarians last Thursday that not all students can afford Chromebooks and she believes it’s important that all of them should have an equal opportunity to buy the computers. This past fall, Natalie went to school early with her father before classes started and they researched local grants such as the Branch County Community Foundation as well as state and federal grant opportunities.
Craig hopes to hear by the end of March if the Community Foundation has approved the district’s grant application to jump start the funding process for the computers.
400 more Chromebooks are needed to meet the goal of district wide coverage, with the price tag estimated at $82,000.
