ANGOLA, IN. – (WTVB) – A suspect is in custody after Angola Police say a woman in a wheelchair was strangled by a Jimmy John’s delivery person in her Village Green apartment on Friday night.
Angola Police Chief Stu Hamblen says the victim called 911 just before 7:00 p.m. to report she was strangled after she allowed the delivery person to use her restroom.
When Officers arrived they found her lying on the floor just inside the front door.
According to an Angola Police Department news release, she told officers she was waiting by the front door when the suspect came up from behind her, grabbed her around the neck and pulled her down out of her wheel chair. The victim said she was strangled to the point of unconsciousness.
The 18-year-old suspect left but was later taken into custody by Indiana State Police and the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department.
The suspect was identified as Nkhai Scroggins from Butler, Indiana. He was lodged in the Steuben County Jail. This case is still under investigation by Angola Police.
