DETROIT, MI. – (WTVB) – Bronson’s Ben Modert will be trying to win a third straight MHSAA Division Four state wrestling championship on Saturday at Ford Field.
Modert won three matches on Friday after he was made the number one seed at 119 pounds.
After scoring a pin in the opening round and winning on a major decision in the quarterfinals, Modert defeated Kevin Spoelman of Ravenna 3-0 in the semi finals.
Modert is one of six Branch County wrestlers who survived the competition on Friday. Three others besides Modert made it to the semifinals. But Bronson’s Craig Tappenden at 160 pounds along with Union City’s Bradley Russell at 125 and Garrett Iobe at 140 were all beaten one match shy of wrestling for a state title.
Quincy’s Chandler Locke is still wrestling in the Division Four consolation bracket at 171 pounds. Coldwater’s Nick Buchanan is also still in the Division Two consolation bracket after he lost in the quarterfinals.
