KINDERHOOK TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was seriously injured Wednesday morning when his motorcycle crashed on I-69 near Southern Road which forced the shutdown of the southbound side of the interstate for almost three hours.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the crash involving the motorcycle and another vehicle was reported at 7:48 a.m..
An investigation by deputies indicated that 29-year-old Jason Hufnagle was traveling south at a high rate of speed when he hit the back of a south bound vehicle driven by 23-year-old Autumn White of Angola, Indiana.
The motorcycle then veered into the median and crashed.
Lakeland firefighters set up a landing zone for the Air Care medical helicopter on the interstate. The Sheriff’s Department says Hufnagle was flown to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo in serious condition.
White was taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital by Life-Care Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.
The landing of the helicopter and subsequent investigation by the Sheriff’s Department forced traffic on the southbound side of I-69 to be detoured at the Kinderhook exit.
The interstate reopened at around 11:00 a.m.. Michigan State Police also assisted the Sheriff’s Department.
