LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Despite the news this week this Penske Logistics was closing its cross-dock facility in Coldwater at the end of April after losing a contract with Ford Motor Company, Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker says he has gotten confirmation from the Michigan Department of Transportation that the city will still receive the road repair and widening grant for Sauk River Drive.
Sauk River Drive was included in a series of Michigan Department of Transportation grants that were announced last month by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
The Transportation Economic Development Fund grant totals $375,000.
A news release from MDOT last month stated Sauk River Drive is an important east-west all-season route but the high volume of commercial traffic has contributed to the deterioration of the road and the pavement is nearing the end of its operational life.
Plans call for Sauk River Drive to be resurfaced from South Michigan Avenue to South Willowbrook Road. The city will also widen the road and put in a dedicated center turn lane in hopes of improving safety.
The total cost of construction is over $495,000. The City of Coldwater share of funds will come to over $120,000.
Baker adds the size and location of the facility will make it attractive for business recruitment efforts.
