COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – New bleachers for the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium at Coldwater High School were among several infrastructure improvements approved Monday night by the Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education.
The board approved a bid of just over $217,500 from Interkal of Kalamazoo for the installation of the new bleachers which will take place over the summer.
Interkal was one of three companies to submit bids. They have installed bleachers and seats at sporting venues around the world. In this area, they have done work for Portage Central, Harper Creek, Kalamazoo Central and Gull Lake High Schools as well as for Western Michigan University and Trine University.
The new bleachers will be A.D.A. compliant and have self storage for the side and end rails. There will also be a video platform and intermediate steps.
The old bleachers are about 25 years old. They have been used ever since the gymnasium was part of an expansion of the high school in the mid 90’s.
Meanwhile, the board approved bids for roofing, lockers and general trades for the Jefferson Elementary and Coldwater High School projects. The winning bids were submitted by Versital Roofing Systems of Grant for over $711,000 and by Brainard Enterprises of Rockford for over $109,000.
The board authorized Owens Ames Kimball to issue letters of intent to the contractors who submitted the bids that were approved.
