PENNFIELD, MI. – (WTVB) – Abby Schwartz poured in 34 points including the winning foul shots with 21 seconds left in overtime as the Pennfield Panthers stunned the Coldwater Cardinals 50-49 Friday night in a Interstate 8 Conference girls basketball matchup.
The Panthers avenged a 69-37 defeat they suffered in Coldwater January 17.
Pennfield played an inspired game on Senior Night and Parents Night as they jumped out to a 24-18 halftime lead. They built their lead to as much as 11 points in the second half before Coldwater rallied.
The Cardinals outscored Pennfield 17-9 in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 40-40 at the end of regulation.
It looked like Coldwater might escape as they got out to a 45-42 lead in overtime but the lead see sawed for the rest of the period before Schwartz made the winning foul shots.
Carlee Crabtree and Mallory Wilber both scored 12 points for Coldwater. Crabtree also grabbed 13 rebounds.
Coldwater has lost three straight to drop to 8-10 overall and 6-6 in the Interstate 8.
The Quincy Orioles assured themselves of finishing their season above .500 Friday night as they won at Concord 50-31. Quincy used a 23-8 fourth quarter to pull away from Yellowjackets. The Orioles are now 11-6 overall and 7-5 in the Big 8 Conference with one week left in the regular season.
Playing their second game in three days, the Bronson Vikings lost at Reading Friday night 45-38. A 15-5 second quarter for Reading proved to be the difference in the game. The loss dropped the Vikings record to 10-8 overall and 7-5 in the Big 8 Conference.
