MENDON, MI. – (WTVB) – Bronson’s Ben Modert and Craig Tappenden along with Quincy’s Chandler Locke won Individual District Championships last week and will be looking to add another title to their resumes on Saturday at the M.H.S.A.A. Division Four Individual Regionals at Mendon.
A total of 17 Branch County wrestlers advanced to the Mendon Individual Regionals.
Modert is seeking a third straight state championship. He captured his 200th career victory last Saturday and won the 119 pound title. Tappenden finished first at 160 pounds while Locke won the 171 pound title.
Modert and Tappenden were among eight Bronson wrestlers to advance out of the districts. The others were Brady Long (285), Preston Wronikowski (119), Brenyn Fee (130), Aricin Smith (140), J.C. DePaz (171) and Justin Blankenship (189).
Five Union City wrestlers advanced to the individual regionals. They were Colton Russell (119), Bradley Russell (125), Garrett Iobe (140), Everett Korn (145) and Grady Iobe (160).
Korn earned a personal milestone last Saturday as he recorded his 100th career victory.
Besides Locke, Quincy’s Jacob Reif (103) and Gerl Pish (152) qualified for regionals as did Tekonsha’s Rodrigo Barron (130).
