JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – It was a banner night for the Coldwater High School gymnastics team at their conference championship meet in Jackson hursday night. The Cardinals beat their own team school record with the score of 137.25 and placed second overall in the league behind the host team.
The six school cooperative team of Jackson Area Gymnastics went undefeated on the season and scored 139.925 points for the first place trophy. Coldwater‘s only loss was to Jackson throughout the season and they claimed second place by a margin of almost 5 points over Saline (132.625).
It was Coldwater‘s night to shine on the awards podium as the Cardinals claimed four of the top five championship honors and picked up a runner up medal as well. Five Coldwater gymnasts earned All-Conference honors for their performances in multiple events.
Abby Travelbee was named the South Central Gymnastics League’s All-Around Champion. She was also named the balance beam champion with a personal best score. Leah Goodwin claimed the championship title in both the vault and the floor exercise, posting a season best on the floor.
Layla Schoch was the runner-up on the uneven bars with her personal best performance as well. Randi Dudek and McKenna Hantz placed in the top 10 in their events to pick up more accolades for the Cardinals.
Five individuals were named to the Academic All-Conference team for the SCGL including Avery Boyce, Sydney Gallop, Katie Kimble, Shelby Taber, and Abby Travelbee.
Coldwater travels to Angola on Monday night for the annual Battle of the Border. The competition begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Old Angola High School Gymnasium. Coldwater will then work to put the final touches on their routines and skills in preparation for the MHSAA Regional meet on March 7th.
