HUDSON, MI.(WTVB) – Both of the Branch County teams in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division Four Team Wrestling Regionals at Hudson lost in the semifinals Wednesday night.
Union City was beaten by Addison 55-22 while Bronson lost to the host and eventual regional champion Hudson Tigers 52-21.
Hudson went on to win its 13th straight regional title as they defeated Addison 45-24 in the finals. Hudson advanced once again to the Division Four state quarterfinals next Friday at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo.
The semifinals started at 189 pounds. The Vikings were tied with the Tigers at 16-16 after the 119 pound match. But Hudson put together three pins and a void to build a 40-16 lead and the Vikings were unable to recover. Addison won the first four matches against Union City. After a Charger victory at 112, Addison sealed the match victory with five straight pins.
Branch County wrestlers who qualified now get ready for the individual regionals this Saturday. Five from Coldwater will compete at the Division Two regionals at Vicksburg. Eight wrestlers from Bronson, five from Union City and three from Quincy will compete at the Division Four regionals at Mendon.
