INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WTVB) – One of the largest domestic tomato processors recently presented AcMoody Farms of Union City with its Tomato Grower of the Year award during the 29th Annual Growers Banquet in Indianapolis.
Red Gold Inc. of Elwood, Indiana, named AcMoody Farms winner of the E.A. Reichart Quality Achievement Award, the second time the Union City tomato growers won that award and its eighth time receiving the Red Gold Master Grower Award.
Currently operated by brothers Brian and Vern, AcMoody Farms is starting its fourth generation of farm and family.
Winners were also given specially designed plaques for producing high-quality tomatoes and for exhibiting industry leadership and professionalism, according to a statement.
The Reichart family — Selita Reichart, senior vice president; Beau Reichart, COO; and Colt Reichart, director of marketing for Omni-Channel & Consumer Relations — presented the award to Brian and Vern AcMoody, who are Branch County Farm Bureau members.
“The AcMoody Farms are deserving of this award as they are a great family who exhibit leadership in the industry and strive to produce quality tomatoes,” said Audrey Sebolt, horticulture specialist for the Michigan Farm Bureau. “To win this award eight consecutive years is a testament to their passion and dedication to the industry.”
The Reichart Achievement Award selects the top tomato grower from a select group of seven master growers, picked from 43 growers for Red Gold.
According to Red Gold, AcMoody Farms “excelled in stewardship and sustainable practices on their farm and participate in the Red Gold IPM program.” The farm accounted for more than 30 million cans of Red Gold whole, diced, stewed, and specialty tomato products.
Red Gold is the largest privately owned tomato processor in the country and specializes in premium quality tomato products for markets in all 50 continental states and over 55 foreign countries. Their tomato products are stocked in a number of Michigan stores, including Meijer, under both Red Gold and private label names.
