UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Five new members of the Union City Hall of Fame will be formally inducted Friday night at McNett Fieldhouse during the Chargers doubleheader with Reading.
Vern AcMoody, Ron Swain, Dasha Yeakey, Dick Watkins and Rod Dibert make up the Class of 2020.
AcMoody served as a coach at Union City from 1978 until 2012. His basketball teams earned district titles in 1993 and 1997. He was also an assistant coach on nine Big 8 Conference championship teams.
Swain earned varsity letters in four sports. He was an all conference selection in football, baseball and basketball. Swain was awarded a college football scholarship but decided instead to serve his country in the U.S. Navy.
Yeakey also earned varsity letters in four sports. She excelled in track and won a 1994 state championship in the discus with a school record throw of 140 feet, 11 inches. Yeakey had top eight finishes in the shot put at the state finals in 1992, ’93 and ’94. She was an all conference softball played in all four years of her high school carear.
Watkins was an all state linebacker on the 1966 undefeated football team. He earned varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball and track and was all conference in three sports.
Dibert lettered in three sports and was an two time all-state quarterback. He was a member of the 1985 Union City football team that advanced to the Sweet 16. Dibert was also the 1985 Big 8 Conference football player of the year.
