COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – You will start to see some changes in downtown Coldwater’s 4 Corners Park next week.
City Manager Keith Baker says in his report for Monday’s City Council meeting that work is scheduled to begin next Tuesday June 1 with the removal of all of the military memorials from the northeast and southeast quadrants.
In addition, Baker says the trees that will not be included as part of the new design will also be removed. He said in his report, “Initially, this will be a dramatic change in the appearance of those corners. However, we believe that once completed, the renovated parks (with new trees as well) will be a great addition to downtown and the “front door” of the community.”
The City Council approved a bid of nearly $479,000 in March from Parrish Excavating of Quincy for the renovation work.
Parrish Excavating has performed other projects for the City including the youth baseball and softball complex and the Milnes Plaza parking lot project.
The work will include the installation of new brick and concrete surfaces, a masonry Veterans Memorial Wall, columns, electrical service improvements with new lighting, water, and stormwater improvements as well as landscaping, irrigation and various other improvements.
The City will remove the existing memorials from the park prior to construction and reinstall the finished improvements. The City will also provide and install all site furnishings.
Renovating the Four Corners Park has been discussed for almost a decade. The last renovation took place in the early 1970’s as part of urban renewal.
