COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man who was accused of asking for cash from numerous people and businesses in the downtown area over a year ago before he was arrested on drug charges was sent to prison Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after he violated his probation.
40-year-old Clayton Richardson Brigham was ordered to serve 20 months to four years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Brigham was given credit for 446 days already served in jail.
He was initially ordered last July to serve seven months in jail and was placed on probation for two years.
Brigham was told not to do any begging or panhandling whatsoever at the time of his sentencing.
Brigham had entered a no contest plea to being in possession of less than 25 grams of a controlled substance. In exchange, prosecutors dismissed a methamphetamine possession charge.
He was also told last July to get mental health treatment and comply with all of the conditions of his sentencing.
