COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A long time tradition of a Valentine’s Day gift basket for seniors, veterans, and hospice patients donated and prepared by the Coldwater Early Bird Exchange Club is happening again this year.
The annual project has been going on for almost three decades. Every basket includes a Valentine’s Day card with a special message written by Coldwater School District Jefferson Elementary third graders. 60 cards written by the students were presented to representatives of the Early Bird Exchange Club Monday.
Group members will gather Wednesday at the Naomi Davis Shelterhouse in Coldwater to stuff the baskets with fresh fruit, canned hams, non-perishable food items, and candy treats, along with hygiene products.
Some of the baskets will be picked up while others will be taken to the Branch County Veterans Affairs Office, and to veterans at the American Legion in Union City.
