ALLEN TOWNSHIP, MI. – (WTVB) – A Jonesville man was arrested Friday night following a Michigan State Police investigation into a suspected arson.
35-year-old Juan Michael Ramirez is facing charges of arson, malicious destruction of private property and resisting arrest in connection with the alleged crimes that took place on U.S. 12 and Hog Creek Road in Allen Township.
According to information provided in a State Police news release, a fire broke out after a gas line leading into an antique mall was broken. A fresh set of shoe prints were found in the snow heading to the south.
A nearby surveillance cameras helped identify a suspect and a canine was brought in to help with the search.
The suspect was found about a mile away in a utility shed where after a brief standoff and a claim by Ramirez he had a firearm, he was taken into custody.
The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office as well as Quincy, Litchfield and Allen Township Fire Departments assisted.
Ramirez is scheduled to be arraigned in Hillsdale County District Court on Monday afternoon.
