Wilford Jay “Red” Loose, 96, of Coldwater passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility.
A funeral service will take place at 12:30 on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Dave Anderson of First Baptist Church of Charlevoix officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery.

Wilford was born July 31, 1924 to Ernest and Cora (Dubendorf) Loose in Butler Township. After graduation from Coldwater high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during both WW II and Korea. Red participated in the invasion of Okinawa. He was a hardworking man, spending 32 years with the Coldwater Fire Department where he retired as Fire Chief.
On October 10, 1948 he married the love of his life, Elnore Whitney. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2016.
Red was a man of faith most recently attending Batavia Community Church. He was a 70 year and life member of the Tyre Lodge No. 18 F & AM of Coldwater. Red was also a member of the Sturgis Chapter No. 26, Royal Arch Masons, the Nebuzaradan Council No. 37, Royal and Select Master of Three Rivers, and the Columbia Commandery No. 37, Knights Templar of Sturgis. He was also a 70 year and life member of Coldwater Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a past Associate Guardian of the International Order of Job’s Daughters.
Red was a life member of the Michigan Fire Chief’s Association and The First Marine Division Association. He was also a member of the United Commercial Travelers, AARP, and the Kiwanis Club. Red had many interests, but mainly tried to live a simple life. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Loose is survived by his daughter Janet (John) Carpenter of Coldwater, his grandchildren April Swartout of Grand Blanc, Corey (Melissa) Carpenter of South Lyon, and his great grandchildren Avery, Reese, Lucy, Brady and Logan; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Elnore Loose; his daughter Eileen (Ed) Flavin; his brother Robert (Margaret) Loose; his sisters Phyllis (Kenneth) Wagar; Wilma Olney (Leslie) – Everett (Lewis); his baby sister Virginia Loose; and his grandson-in-law Marc Swartout.
