COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI. (WTVB) – The information lobby at all of the Michigan Department of Transportation Welcome Centers including the one on northbound I-69 at the six mile marker in Branch County will be reopening on May 28 with appropriate safety protocols in place.
The 14 Welcome Center information lobbies were shut down in March of 2020 as part of the ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The reopening of the information lobbies comes after the May 15 Michigan Department of Health and Human Services gatherings and face mask order which loosened COVID-19 restrictions.
Demand for travel and tourism information is expected to be high over the long Memorial Day weekend. Triple-A forecasts over one million Michigan residents will take a trip during the holiday period, a nearly 57 percent increase from last year.
The Branch County Welcome Center along with four others around the state will continue to provide free COVID-19 testing.
