COLDWATER, MI. – (WTVB) – Brandon Downs erupted for 25 points while Ethan Crabtree added 14 points and Dylan Targgart scored 12 points as the Coldwater Cardinals defeated the Marshall Red Hawks 64-54 in front of a near capacity crowd on Friday night at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
The win not only kept the Cardinals in the thick of the Interstate 8 race but it also avenged a loss they suffered at Marshall just before Christmas.
Coldwater led 29-25 at the half but busted the game open with a 17-7 third quarter. The Cardinals got the lead to as high as 18 points in the fourth quarter before Marshall used some hot three point shooting to cut the lead to seven at one point.
But the Cardinals maintained their poise at the foul line down the stretch as they improved to 9-5 overall and 7-2 in the Interstate 8.
Downs also had four steals. Targgart led the Cardinals in rebounding with eight while Spencer Rodesiler had three assists and four steals.

SPRINGPORT, MI. – (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles scored the final six points of the game as they pulled out a thrilling 53-52 victory over the Springport Spartans on Friday night.
Quincy found themselves down 52-47 with just over two minutes remaining. The Orioles forced a few turnovers, and made some big plays at the end of the game. Matt Hagaman hit a big 3-pointer and Kyler Economou tied the game up with a short jumper.
Economou then stole the ball, went in for a layup and was fouled. He split the crucial free throws, giving the Orioles the lead. Quincy then got the final defensive stop to seal the victory.
Economou led the Orioles with 18 points while Evan Coon had 13 points and Dunn had 10 points and five rebounds. Hagaman finished with nine points and eight assists. Quincy is now 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the Big 8 Conference.
