COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community School Board of Education gave their approval Monday night to the creation of a school resource officer position for the 2020-2021 school year.
The school district and the City of Coldwater are partnering on the S.R.O. position.
Superintendent Terry Whelan said they have spent a lot of time working with the city on this.
Whelan said the officer would spend a majority of their time at the high school and middle school but they will also build positive connections with elementary students.
Whoever is hired will go through two training sessions. The first would be for a week in May at the National Association of School Resource Officers. The officer would also take part in ALICE training this summer.
She said the school district would pick up 75 percent of the costs while the City of Coldwater’s share would be 25 percent.
