BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN) – A 41-year-old man had to be pulled from the Battle Creek River near Elm Street while a 19-year-old from Hillsdale escaped injury when his pickup truck wound up in a Kalamazoo River channel early Saturday morning.
The two incidents took place within a few hours of one another.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports police were called by another man who was walking near the Battle Creek River and heard the victim.
The man managed to reach the shore. After being pulled out of the water, the unidentified man was taken to Bronson Battle Creek. It’s not clear yet how the man got into the river.
The incident with the pickup truck happened just a few hours before that. The pick-up went into the Kalamazoo River channel at Dickman Road and Capital Avenue.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports the man told police his brakes failed as the pickup was in a curve.
He scrambled up an embankment after going into the water and refused medical treatment.
