COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Some tweaks have been made to Coldwater’s annual midwinter celebration that takes place this weekend.
Winter Fest, which used to be known as Ice Fest, will still be held in downtown Coldwater with most of the activities taking place between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m..
This is the first year the City of Coldwater’s Recreation Department will put on the event.
Community Enrichment Director Julie Santure says the changes were made due in part to Michigan’s unpredictable weather.
Local clubs and organizations have created handmade snowmen with a $200 first prize and there will be short presentations every hour about sled dogs on Monroe Street. Also on the schedule will be two live wood carvings at the Four Corners Park which will replace the ice carvings from past year.
Santure says a hold over from previous Ice Fest events will be the Soup and Chili Cook Off.
For $5 you can taste soup and chili at different downtown locations.
The warming stations inside of downtown businesses are also back.
Winter Fest will wrap with a 7:00 p.m. show at the Tibbits Opera House that will honor ABBA and the Bee Gees.
